Justin Turner Woods' Obituary
Justin Turner Woods, age 38, of Louisville, Kentucky departed this world June 28th, 2023. Justin was born in Seattle, Washington on March 19th, 1985. He lived in Lakewood, Washington with his mother until he was thirteen years old. He attended Heritage Christian Elementary and then Life Christian Academy middle school. Justin loved to play sports. During his elementary years he played soccer, however, it was in middle school that his love of basketball became apparent.
In 1999, Justin moved to Louisville, Kentucky to live with his father. He attended DuPont Manual High School and it was there that he met friends that he would cherish all his life. Justin played basketball for Manual High School on both the junior varsity and varsity teams. He was very proud of both his academic and athletic accomplishments there. He graduated from high school in 2003.
After high school, Justin spent a year at Shaw University in Raleigh, NC but returned to Louisville to attend Bellarmine University. He attended Bellarmine University for two years and was a member of the basketball team.
Justin joined the Army National Guard in 2008 and was honorably discharged in 2009 after serving in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. He served in a war zone and was part of the Armored division of the Army. His decorations include Army Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Campaign Star, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon and Armed Forces Reserve Medal.
Justin was a patriot and above all he enjoyed working with and helping other Veterans. He was able to fulfill this goal through his work in the Logistics Department at the Louisville VA Hospital. He deeply believed in honoring those who had served their country and he showed this every day of his short life.
Justin had a deep capacity for love and care for others. He was charismatic, fun-loving, witty and always had a beautiful smile on his face. His two dogs, Mayhem and Trouble, had a special place in his life. Justin was a bona fide sneaker lover. He was very proud of his collection of shoes and Michael Jordan’s were his favorite.
Justin leaves behind his loving parents, Kimberley Green and Lawrence Woods, stepfather, Travis Green, beloved life mate Jennifer McGee, grandmother, Ella Turner, Aunts Cassandra Robey, Karen Ellison (Alan), and Lynda Womack, Uncles Robert Woods, Willy Woods and Kevin Turner, Cousins, Alicia Oldham-Barnett, Ashonda Oldham, Angelita Oldham, Ronald Woods, Jr., Mykyn Woods, Catisha Woods, Catosha Woods, Madison Woods, Lynnese Woods, Willie Woods, Jr., Kia Turner, Marshall Lee, Mariah Lee and good friends Keenan Burton, Albert Louis Jr and his beloved Cane Corso’s Mayhem and Trouble. He also leaves behind many other family, friends and acquaintances who loved him and will miss him deeply.
