June Marie Pierce's Obituary
June was born in Akron, Ohio. When she was sixteen, she and her family moved to Tacoma, WA, where June attended Lincoln High School. After graduation, June moved to Los Angeles, CA where she met her husband, Vernon L. Pierce, whom she married in 1947. They came to Tacoma to start their lives. Vernon spent 26 years in the Tacoma Police Department. June was a registrar for adult education classes, moving on to Pierce College, then retiring from the state after 23 years. She also earned her associates degree while employed at Pierce College. Vernon and June spent their married years traveling in their trailers, on their boat, and aboard their three motorhomes. They traveled abroad, cruised, crossed the United States in their traveling van, and in the early 90s started spending their winters at their second homes in Mesa, AZ. For many years, 100 people could pass through their door on Christmas Day. Same on the Fourth of July to celebrate Vernon’s birthday. (They loved entertaining!) When he passed in June 2007, June continued her travels around the world and wintering in Arizona. She and Vernon led enviable lives to the end. They had enjoyed 60 years of marriage when Vernon passed. June outlived him by 17 some years, passing at 97. Having outlived most of their friends and family, June requested no funeral service. She leaves behind her daughter, Ashley Pierce, Grandson Mathew Pierce, and Granddaughter Tracey Pierce.
