June M. Harmon's Obituary
June Maurine Harmon, 84, of Tacoma, WA, passed away into the loving embrace of her Lord and Savior, September 2, 2011.
June was born in Esbon Township, Jewel County, Kansas on March 6, 1927 to (Arthur) Forrest and Golda Kennedy. Her early life was influenced by her experiences growing up during the Great Depression of the 1930's. She lived in the outskirts of the heartland and farming communities of the Dust Bowl territory in the mid-west. The hardships of these times helped shape her appreciation for the most important gifts of all, her strong faith in God, and her strong value for family and friends. June was a long time citizen of Tacoma, moving here in the early 1940's. June attended and graduated from Stadium High School in Tacoma in 1945. In 1948 she met the love of her life, Paul Holt Harmon and they married on April 25, 1949 in Roosevelt Heights Christian Church, Tacoma, WA, officiated by her father-in law, Pastor Rollie Harmon.
June worked several years at Washington CO-OP in Tacoma, and after her children were grown, she worked for her husband's company where together they took on the challenge of running a family business that evolved into Cascade Trailways Charters and Tours. During their retirement years June, together with her husband Paul, shared a strong passion collecting and selling antique collectibles. They enjoyed world travel. They treasured family reunions, camping and fishing with family. June and Paul celebrated 53 years of marriage before Paul passed away in the fall of 2002.
June was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church. She was a volunteer for and supported the American Heart Association. She was also a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Red Hats, Mid-County Community Senior Center and Young at Hearts at Our Savior Lutheran Church. June also enjoyed reading and playing in card clubs.
She is survived by her four children, James Holt (& Jeanine) Harmon, Susan Maurine (& Randy) Oyster, Margaret Ellen (& Jeff) Nelson and Linda June (& Pat) Swiger. She was also blessed by her 11 grandchildren (Heather Reed, Coral Vig, Kimberlee Hansen, Michael Odell, Kristin Oyster, Colton Oyster, Marla Vormestrand, Matt Nelson, Megan Hammon, Jason Swiger, Michael Swiger), 13 great grandchildren (Kyle Hansen, Kaylee Hansen, Kallen Hansen, Kamren Hansen, Jamie Odell, Jared Odell, Amelie Vig, Owen Nelson, Eric Nelson, Cindel Vormestrand, Logan Lemings, Harmony Lemings, and Hailey Lemings) and her 6 siblings, (Beth Koch, Rex Kennedy, Lila Cheslik, Reta Williams, Viva Jean Kennedy and Jack Kennedy). She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, a large extended family and many dear friends.
June will be fondly remembered and dearly missed by all who knew her.
