Judith (Judi) Kay Nolta's Obituary
Judi was born May 19, 1938, in Winnemac, Indiana, and went to be with the Lord a few days after her 85th birthday. Her parents were John and Julia Retherford, her father a pastor in the Friends Church, and her Mother a homemaker. Judi was raised with her two younger sisters, Patsy and Dixie. When she was six, her fourteen-year-old aunt Betty came to live with them after the death of her parents, making them four sisters. For many years as adults, the four of them would hold Sisters Reunions in various places around the country.
Judi was a fun-loving child, and enjoyed playing “Grocery Store” and “Monthly Meeting” with her sisters. She learned to play piano at age six and was an accomplished musician, playing multiple instruments. Judi’s parents were missionaries in Kenya from 1952 till 1956 where she spent her high school years at Rift Valley Academy. In 1956 she entered George Fox College where she met Dan. After a three year courtship, they married September 3, 1960, a marriage that lasted sixty two years! Judi graduated from George Fox with a joint degree in education from Southern Oregon College while Dan was Assistant Pastor at Medford Friends Church. Judi followed Dan to two other pastorates in Svensen, Oregon and Tacoma, Washington. She also supported him in every way in his work as a Law Enforcement Chaplain.
Together, Dan and Judi had five children: Julie, Jeff, Daven, Darci, and Dixie. A number of years later they welcomed Rene, a foster child, as their sixth. They have eleven grandchildren and two great-granddaughters. Throughout their married life they traveled extensively: 25 years in a row to Puerto Vallarta, to Africa a number of times, with their last and perhaps most memorable trip to New Zealand. Dan and Judi retired to Friendsview Retirement Community where they lived until Judi’s home-going.
A memorial service for Judi is scheduled for June 6, 2023 at 2:00PM in Aspen Chapel in our Celebration of Life Center, which is located on the grounds of Mountain View Memorial Park. There will be a reception to follow in the Willow room of the same facility.
