Juanita Hostetter's Obituary
Juanita Louise (Carroll) Hostetter
February 8, 1910 – June 30, 2013
First child of Charles and Sally (Smith) Carroll, born in the small community of Gate, Thurston County, Washington. She grew up in Olympia graduating from Olympia High School in 1927. After high school the family moved to Tacoma, where she attended business college and night classes at the College of Puget Sound. During this time she was employed as a secretary in the Tacoma School District. In Tacoma on November 25, 1931, she married Claud Hostetter, a teacher at Vaughn High School, which is now part of the Peninsula School District. In 1937 they moved to Auburn where they spent most of their years. Her husband, Claud, a teacher and administrator in the Auburn School District, died in 1979 after a wonderful 47-year marriage. Juanita was a woman of many interests including music and travel. She was extremely proud of the fact that she had traveled to all continents (except Antarctica) and especially enjoyed Switzerland and Ireland. Travel was important, but music was her passion, playing for several different Eastern Star Chapters, Daughters of the Nile and for 25 years she played for the Goodwill Golden Oldies Fashion Shows. In addition to her music, she held various leadership positions in Eastern Star. She was a 76-year member of the Auburn First United Methodist Church.
She was predeceased by her parents, Charles L. Carroll and Sally Carroll, sister Ruth Hora and brothers Charles Carroll, a casualty of World War II, and Hugh Carroll. She is survived by her son, Bob Hostetter (Susan), of Grapeview; granddaughters Connie Holman (Tim) of Tacoma, Dr. Karen Hostetter of Pueblo, Colorado; and great-granddaughters Hannah and Alex Holman. She is also survived by a sister, Virginia Curtice of Tacoma, and numerous nephews and nieces.
Her request was that any memorial gifts be made to the Educational Scholarship Fund of the Auburn First United Methodist Church, 100 N St. SE, Auburn, WA 98002. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, July 16 at 2:00 PM in the Garden Chapel at Mountain View Funeral Home, Lakewood, WA.
