Joyce LaBelle's Obituary
Joyce Vivienne LaBelle 92, passed away Saturday, August 17th. Joyce was born in Steilacoom, WA on September 12, 1920 to parents Kenneth and Ione Light. She was preceded in death by brother, Kenneth Light and sister, Shirley Light Nosik. Joyce was the Great Granddaughter of E.A. Light, a pioneer who crossed the plains with the Longmire Party in 1853.
Joyce married the love of her life, Robert D. LaBelle in 1944. They had many wonderful adventures together until Robert's sudden passing in August of 1979.
Joyce attended Steilacoom Grade School, Jason Lee Middle School and Stadium High School. She earned her BA in Education from Central Washington University in 1944. Joyce taught grade school at Montesano and the Tacoma School District for over 30 years, affectionately earning the nickname "Give 'em Hell LaBelle!" from her peers.
Never at a lost for words, with an amazing sense of humor, she will be missed dearly by her family that she held so close.
Joyce is survived by daughters Merrie LaBelle and Gay Barnum, Son-in-law Thomas Barnum, six grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.
The famliy would like to extend a special thank you to the angels at Oakbrook Place Adult Family Home for the loving care Joyce received.
Viewing is set for Thursday, August 22 from 5-9PM at Mountain View Funeral Home in Lakewood. Service and luncheon will be held on Friday, August 23 at 11AM at Oberlin Congregational Church in Steilacoom.
