Joyce L. Sagehorn's Obituary
Joyce Lucille Sagehorn June 3, 1929 - April 19, 2012
Although we didn't want her to go, Joyce Lucille Sagehorn passed away peacefully April 19, 2012 at her Tacoma home. She found great comfort being there where friends visited and her devoted family surrounded her with loving tenderness and care. She was born June 3, 1929 in Vegreville, Alberta, Canada. Her parents, Alice and John Volk, brought their family to Tacoma in 1931. She graduated from Lincoln High School and later married her longtime sweetheart Wally. Although she worked in a number of different jobs, she was best known as an accomplished seamstress who could always be counted on to make a wedding dress fit just perfectly. Friends remember the twinkle in her eye, her warm smile, and her delight in taking time to exchange stories. She was energetic and a hard worker, even helping to build their family home in 1955. She was a kind, loving, devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and a friend to all. She delighted in watching the Mariners, spending time with friends, caring for her little dog Penny, making her special raspberry jam for the family, and tending the flowers in her garden. She especially enjoyed being with her family and celebrating in all their special occasions. She was a lifetime member of Hope Lutheran Church, the Tacoma Elks, and South Tacoma Eagles Reac Lodge 2933. She was predeceased by her husband Wally of 58 loving years, and her brother Ernest Volk. She is survived by her daughter Sandra (David) Huber and her son Robert (Dale) Sagehorn, three grandchildren, Shawn Marie Samples (Van), Brian (Nissa) Huber, and Dereck Sagehorn, two great-grandchildren, Jordan and Jaylee, sister Velma (William) Walker, brothers Robert (Tami) Volk and John (Susie) Volk, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Funeral services will be Monday, April 30, 2012 at 2pm in the Mountain View Funeral Home Celebration of Life Center. (253) 584-0252. Pastor Randy Olson will officiate. Special thank you to Dr. Inoue and Dr. Singh, the oncology nurses at TG Cancer Care Alliance, and the Hospice caregivers for their wonderful care and support. Special remembrances can be made to the American Cancer Society or Franciscan Hospice House. Mom, Grandmother, and Great-Grandmother, we all miss you so much.
