Joyce Hubbard's Obituary
Sunrise June 4, 1931 - Sunset March 27, 2012
Joyce Joann Hubbard passed into eternal rest on March 27, 2012. She was born on June 4, 1931 to her proud parents, Jesse and Mabel Tinsley at Cook County Hospital in her beloved Chicago, IL. Before graduating from Marshall High School in 1949, she was crowned Miss West Side of Chicago. She met Henry Hubbard, her next door neighbor at the age of 14 and he became the love of her life and their love lasted forever. They were joined in marriage and would have celebrated their 62nd anniversary on March 31, 2012. During their union, they became the most remarkable parents to their four children, Laverne, Loretta, Doris and Arthell. As a military wife, Joyce was dedicated, loyal and resilient and spent her life making sure that the loving family they created was always loved, protected, extremely close and spiritually guided. They moved to Tacoma in 1987 and she promptly found her church family at Allen A.M.E.
Joyce was an active member of Allen, a faithful member of the Steward Board, Vashti Circle, Lay Organization and Matrons Club, but above all, her fondest responsibility and dedication was to the Gospel Choir. She loved the Gospel Choir as if each member was one of her own children. She served faithfully as their President for over 20 years alongside the director, her dear friend, Willard Loggins.
Joyce is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 61 years and 27 days, Henry Hubbard; her daughters, Laverne Lemmons of Chicago, Loretta Meminger of Tacoma, Doris Hannah of Tacoma; her son, Arthell Hubbard of Tacoma; two grandsons, Maurice Meminger, Alton Hannah Jr. both of Tacoma, WA; her granddaughters, SFC Michelle Meminger of Ft. Belvoir, VA, Miesha Cook (Michael) of Odenton, MD, Faith Lemmons of Chicago, and Nina Hubbard of New Jersey; great grandchildren, Maurice and Constance Bell of Maryland, Lauren Cook also of MD, and Alton Wayne Hannah III (Trey); nieces Eileen Wilson and Joyce Wise of Chicago IL; nephews Roger Thompson, Graham Thompson, and Jesse Tinsley, all of Chicago IL; a very dear aunt, Ozell Pettis of Chicago and a very large contingent of uncles, cousins, and faithful lifelong friends that were dear to her heart.
She was preceded in death by her parents Jesse and Mabel Tinsley, her three sisters, Emma, Alice and Jessie Mae; her granddaughter, Shira West and a host of other loved ones. She was a strong, funny and generous woman -" she will remain FOREVER IN OUR HEARTS.
