Joy A. Hoard's Obituary
Joy A. Hoard Joy Ann Brunette Hoard, 84, a longtime Tacoma resident, passed away on March 13, 2011 at Franciscan Hospice and Palliative Care after a short illness. The third of ten children, Joy was born September 22, 1926 to Madelynne and Clinton Brunette in Rice Lake, Wisconsin. She graduated from Rice Lake High School in 1944. She married Ernest R. Hoard on December 7, 1945 in Rice Lake. They moved to Tacoma in 1950. Her late husband Ernest was a stonemason and the proprietor of Ernest R. Hoard Masonry. Joy worked for Weyerhaeuser, in the mail department, for over 20 years, retiring in 1992. A life-long Lutheran, she was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church for over thirty years. She was also a volunteer poll worker for many years. An avid and knowledgeable baseball fan, she was a Tacoma Rainiers season-ticket holder. She was a season-ticket holder at the Tacoma Little Theater. She is survived by her son Timothy Hoard (Sydney), daughter Dawn Stevens (Douglas Dixon), grandsons Aaron Hoard (Jaime), Todd Stevens, and Chad Stevens, great-grandson Christopher Hoard, sisters Doris, Betty, and Sandy, brothers Tom and Brad, many nieces, nephews, and other family members, and many friends. A memorial service celebrating Joy's life will be held Saturday, April 9, 2011 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, 1315 North Stevens St., at 11:00 a.m. In her memory donations may be made to Franciscan Hospice and Palliative Care (http://www.fhshealth.org).
