Josine C. Vanderlaan
A dedicated piano teacher for over 50 years, Josine Vanderlaan passed away on October 17, 2017 in Gig Harbor, WA, two days before her 90th birthday.
Josine was born in Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada to Pieter and Dingena deWit who had immigrated from the Netherlands. She, along with two older sisters lived on a farm in Nobleford, Alberta until 1945, when the family moved to British Columbia. She met her husband Bert (Don) and they were married in 1952 in Sumas, WA. They settled in Lakewood, WA and had three children.
Early on, Josine started teaching piano and taught hundreds of students through the years. She was a member of the WA State Music Teachers Association. She played for weddings, memorial services, church services and pre-schools.
Josine touched many lives with her love of Jesus and her service at Lake City Community Church over a 65 year period, with teaching Sunday school, playing the organ and piano and hosting church gatherings.
In the later years, Don and Josine loved traveling with their 5th wheel. Josine was an avid tole painter.
Preceded in death was her husband Don and son Calvin. She is survived by her two daughters, Marlene Hageness (Don) and Cheryl van Eerden (George), six grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
Viewing will take place at Mt. View Funeral Home in Lakewood, WA on Friday, Nov. 3, from 10am – 2pm with graveside service at 2:30pm. Memorial Service will be held on Sat. Nov. 4, at Lake City Community Church at 1pm. 8810 Lawndale Ave. SW Lakewood, WA 98498.
