Joshua Mayer Kay's Obituary
Joshua M. Kay, raised in Cambridge, MA, passed away peacefully at age 74 after eleven years with Alzheimer’s.
Josh was a renaissance man. Fluent in five languages, he sang with the Cleveland Orchestra Chorus while at Oberlin. He undertook doctoral work in economics at U.C. Berkeley before changing to energy and natural resources. His fourth degree was in electrical engineering from N.C. State. He worked at Tacoma Power for 24 years. At Temple Beth El, he taught middle-schoolers, served on the board, sang in the choir, and chanted Torah weekly.
He was the social glue for his extended family, a bridge-builder, a patient listener, and a social justice advocate. He made friends easily from all walks of life.
He is survived by his wife Judith of 53 years and son Jeremy; brother Roger (Beth) and their children Melissa and Addison; brother Benjamin, half-brother Max (Patti).
A service will be held April 20th at 11:00 a.m. at Temple Beth El in Tacoma followed by a meal of condolence. Donations may be made to the Temple.
