Joshua Hockett's Obituary
Staff Sergeant Joshua Hockett was born in Illinois on July 12, 1986. He entered active duty on July 21, 2005, and attended One Station Unit Training at Fort Benning, GA. Upon Graduation, SSG Hockett earned the coveted title of United States Army Infantryman.
Staff Sergeant Hockett’s first assignment was at Ledward Barracks, Germany, with A CO, 1-26 IN. He deployed with the unit for 15 months to Eastern Baghdad in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Staff Sergeant Hockett’s second assignment was with C-52/1-14 CAV at Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Washington, from June 2008 until March 2011. He deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom again from August 2009 until July 2010 as a Stryker Commander and Gunner. Assigned to Fort Bliss, Texas in April 2011, SSG Hockett served with B CO, 3-41 IN as a Stryker Commander. In February 2013, SSG Hockett returned to Joint Base Lewis-McChord and was assigned B CO 5-20 IN as a Squad Leader later as the Battalion’s Stryker Master Trainer.
SSG Hockett’s Awards and decorations include the Army Commendation Medal (2OLC), Army Achievement Medal (1OLC), Army Good Conduct Medal (2nd Award), National Defense Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal (1 Campaign Star), Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, Presidential Unit Citation, and the Meritorious Unit Commendation.
