Josephine Carolyn Carter's Obituary
Mrs. Josephine C. Carter (Miss Jo) went to be with her Lord and Savior on April 23rd, 2014. The visitation will be held on Saturday May 3 between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. at mountain View Funeral Home which is located at 4100 Steilacoom Blvd. SW (Lakewood).
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday May 6 at 10 a.m. at Bethlehem Baptist Church which is located at 4818 E. Porltland Avenue (Tacoma).
Josephine leaves behind a daughter, 10 nieces and nephews, 6 honorary neices and nephews, 17 great-nieces and nephews, 9 honorary great-nieces and nephews, 8 great-great nieces and nephews, 6 honorary great-great nieces and nephews and 1 great-great-great-niece, not to mention a host of other close relatives and friends.
During her years, Josephine became a member of the Missionary Society and Circle Leader of the Willing Worker Circle, then became Vice President of the Parent Body. During that tenure, she was voted in as the First President of the Women’s Department of the Ebenezer Baptist District Association. After that tenure, she served 2 terms as Recording Secretary of the Parent Body of the Ebenezer Baptist District Association. She also was a volunteer for St. Joseph’s Hospital for 12 years on the Blood Pressure Brigade, served as Chairman of Church Nurses Nation, State, District and Local. She was the Publicity Chairman of the church and Entertainment Chairman for the Building Fund Committee.
Josephine has served as Chaplain, Secretary, Vice President and served 2 separate terms as a member of the National Gives Nominating Committee.
Josephine had been a volunteer for Goodwill Industries for well over 30 years, a model for the Golden Oldies Guild, as well as serving as President of the Tacoma Goodwill Women’s Auxiliary.
She received the Volunteer of the year in 1983 and again in 1986. Josephine was presented with a Life Membership at the National Assembly in 1999. She has represented and spoke at various church and organization on behalf of Goodwill Industries.
In 1994, she won the Elsine Katz Volunteer award at the Goodwill Assembly Convention that was held in Denver, Colorado. She was involved in a community program called, Collecting Golden Garbage for Dollars.
