Joseph William Bergin's Obituary
Joseph William Bergin was born in Mobile, Alabama, September 23, 1944 and died peacefully on October 8, 2008. He had lived in Lakewood, Washington for 47 years. He began his firefighting career as a volunteer firefighter with the Lakewood Department and went on to serve his country during the Vietnam War and was a Firefighter aboard the USS Bennington. After his Navy service he became a Civil Servant firefighter in Point Barrow, Alaska and later transferred to U.S. Puget Sound Navel Shipyard as a firefighter where he served until his retirement in 1994. Joe was honored to serve his country and community as a firefighter. He was a quiet, humble "Good Shepard" to all he came in contact with. He loved working outside and helping others. His mother, Anna Marie Bergin and four sisters survive him: Marjorie Thatcher, Helen Carlson, Rosemary Ballard, and Mary Pat Bergin-Sperry. He will be missed by numerous family, friends, and his African Grey "Crackers". He was a member of St. John Bosco Catholic Church. In celebration of Joe's Life Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St John Bosco Catholic Church, Saturday, October 11, 2008 at 11am.
