Joseph S. Kinyone's Obituary
Joseph was born October 27, 1943 in Honolulu, Hawaii, died February 2, 2008 in Lakewood, Washington surrounded by friends and family after a six year battle against Dementia. Joseph was raised in the old neighborhood of River Street in Hawaii. He paddled for Waikiki Surf Club. He attended St. Louis High School until he moved to Costa Mesa, California where he graduated from Newport Harbor High School. Joseph was the typical local boy from Hawaii who continued to surf at Huntington Beach and paddle for Newport Beach/Balboa Outrigger club in Southern California. He received his degree and graduated from Orange Coast College. He was well known for his martial art skills and refereed in the International Karate Championship tournaments in Los Angeles. Joseph was a man of all seasons who did a little modeling and acting, body guard, pilot and was an entrepreneur. He then worked as a Psychiatric Technician for the State of California until he received an injury on the job and had to retire. After spending over thirty years of his life in California, he moved to Lakewood, Washington to be closer to his family. He will be missed by his friends and Ohana in California and Hawaii. He is survived by his sons Joseph Kinyone, Jr. and Kevin Ho; daughter, Noella Kinyone; brothers David and Herman Menza; sisters, Lucille Menza, Lani Prince, and Genevieve Kinyone; and grandchildren Elisabeth, Katherine, and Steven. A service will be held on Thursday, February 14, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. It will be held in the Garden Chapel at Mountain View Funeral Home, 4100 Steilacoom Blvd. SW, Lakewood, Washington.
