Julia and Family of Joe (Cal)
It has been more than a year now since our beloved Joe Cal left us. I ran accross a clipping in some of my old books--a newspaper clipping which Joe had sent to my mom (Celestine Middlebrook) of Monticello, God rest her soul. The story was about his accepting honors from then President Nixon for an anti-drug related mission. Even though I didn't see my cousin very much, I'd talk to him every now and then and last saw him in 1997 in Jackson, MS. I grew up as a little girl under he and Ken and I loved them like brothers. I miss them both very much. Please know that they were such an integral part of the Robinson and Peyton families. Both Ken and Joe will forever be remembered in a positive way. My father thought the world of Joe Peyton -- and my father was a very difficult person to impress. I know Joe impressed a lot of people. Our deepest sympathies for the family of such a wonderful guy. Played basketball with Joe for two years at U.P.S. Although did not see Joe for many years was always reminded of his engaging personality and great character by sons and daughters of friends who had gone to U.P.S. and always asked if I had known Joe. It was always such a pleasure to respond affirmatively and share some fond memories. I feel very fortunate to have crossed paths with Joe Peyton.
