In Loving Memory of Joseph Michael Dumont BlickenstaffJoe was born September 26, 1980 in Vancouver, B.C. He was adopted by his aunt, uncle and cousins of Albany, Oregon two months before his first birthday. He attended Central Elementary, Memorial Middle School, West Albany and Monroe High School. He completed his G.E.D. in May of 2000 and became a CNA shortly there after.Joe entered the United States Army in the spring of 2001 and graduated from basic training at Ft. Benning, Georgia on August 31. He was a Specialist in B Company, 1st Battalion, 23rd Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade, 2nd Infantry Division at Fort Lewis, Washington. Joe died on December 8, 2003 near the city of Ad Duluiyah in Iraq at the age of 23. During his service he was awarded the Army Service Ribbon, the National Defense Ribbon, the Expert Infantry Badge and the Army Good Conduct Medal. After his death, Joe was awarded a Bronze Star Medal.Joe met his wife Angie Stirnemann in Corvallis, Oregon and they were married on October 6, 2001 in Sumner, Washington. They lived in Steilacoom with their calico cat, Kitten.We will forever cherish the precious memories of Joe: his playful humor that hallmarked all he did, his depth and intensity with which he lived, and his remarkable strength of spirit. He was honest, insightful and compassionate. He loved singing, songwriting and playing the guitar. He envisioned his own band, Better Days. His music was most influenced by Layne Staley of Alice in Chains and Travis Bracht of Second Coming. Joe was proud to be a soldier, proud to protect those that he loved and proud to fight for the freedoms of this country. He believed in God and is now home in Heaven with his Savior, Jesus Christ.He is survived by his wife Angela, mother Georgia, fathers Ray and Jerry, sisters Amy and Susan, his brother Eric, grandmother Janette, 3 nieces, several aunts, uncles, cousins and countless friends.If you have a story to share about Joe please email his family at [email protected]. View Funeral Home.Graveside services will be held at 12 noon on Dec. 19, 2003 at Tahoma National Cemetery.
