Joey Gratchner was the best uncle that someone could ask for. He was always very kindhearted, putting everyone else's needs before his own. He never forgot a birthday and was always there when you needed him. I loved having him as my uncle, always finding joy and humor in the smallest of things. I have never met anyone that had such a relentless dedication to his family like Uncle Joey did. He showed me what it means to be a good brother and I hope that I am able to take care of my siblings with the same compassion that he had. I love you Uncle Joey and I will miss you, but I'm am happy that you are in a better place without pain.##imported-begin##Robert Cierley Jr.##imported-end##
In 1986 I was introduced to Joe by his sister Frances, currently my beautiful wife of 23 years. the family knows him as Joey. Joey being the older brother was very warm and welcoming to me. He being the older brother he never gave me the "You better not hurt my baby sister" look. He accepted me right away and was my best man in our wedding.
Joey was a friendly person to everyone he met. He always put his sisters' priorities first. He was a great brother and I learned humility, kindness and patience by watching him on how he approached most things. Joey would aslways go out of his way to ensure his Mom, Dad and sisters were taken care of . He was the big brother and his heart made him a giant knight and his kindness made him a saint.
Joey had such a relaxed spirit that made you feel comfortable and just being around him you knew everything would be okay. Joey was the epitome of virtue and lived to serve others. He was a proud veteran to have served in the Air force and loved wearing his uniform. One of his proudest moments I observed is when our oldest son Robert was born and made him an Uncle Joey for the first time. Four nephews and a niece later kept him busy and he seemed to have served his uncle duties with joy, patience and honor.
If joey knew you longer than a day he was a friend for life and loved all who he met. He was my brother and my friend. I will be forever greatful for his time with me and my family. We are going to miss him dearly. I see his face in his mom, dad and sisters. So I know his spirit is still around.
I believe God has a very special place for him. I know he will continue to watch over us as a guardian and a saint. Joey I will pick up where you left off and and will watch and take care of the family in your absence.
Love, your brother Rob##imported-begin##Rob Cierley##imported-end##
To the Family and Friends of Joe:
My deepest sympathy to all who knew Joe. We are all broken hearted by his passing. I worked with Joe at TSA and maintained e-mail communication with him after he left to return to Boeing.
Joe was one of the WONDERFUL people in this world and touched everyone that he came into contact with, in a very special way. Joe will never be forgotten by me and by many. Joe was truly an angel on earth, and now he is an angel in heaven, still watching over us and giving us strength to go on and do good things.
Joe reminds me of a rainbow! Whenever you saw him he shinned, he made you smile, you felt hopeful, and energized! Whenever I see a rainbow, I will think of Joe, and be comforted, in the thought, that he is looking down and saying HELLO!
Joe thought the world of his family and talked of them often. My prayers are with you all. Sharon##imported-begin##Sharon Thorbeck##imported-end##
Uncle Joey you will ALWAYS be the GREATEST uncle in the WHOLE WIDE WORLD. You and me had some fun times together and I'll never forget it. But, sometimes when I felt down or even happy my sprits were always high when you were around me and my family. I just couldn't thank GOD enough times for an uncle like you. Even though your not here with me now, you are here with me in my heart, forever. I will love and miss you forever.
Love,
Your Niece Emi##imported-begin##Emi Cierley##imported-end##

I was sad to hear that Joe had went in for something on his knee and then a few months later it had turned to brain cancer. I went and saw him a few months ago and I'm glad he is no longer in pain and suffering. He was a great guy that I worked with about 10 years ago in Functional Testing at Boeing and sometimes when we worked on weekends we'd turn on the music a few of us and sing why we worked or just talk at break about all the great bands and music. We had a close nit group at that time that we were able to have breaks and lunches together and at holidays we'd all be involved in filling stockings or presents for different outreach programs. Joe will be missed and I pray for his family and close friends during this time. May God bless you in your grieving and those around you provide comfort.##imported-begin##Crystal Mitchell##imported-end##
