Joseph V. Figueroa's Obituary
Joseph was born to Manuel & Juanita Figueroa on April 15th 1942. He enlisted in the Army in the year of 1958. He was a decorated Army Ranger Combat soldier, was stationed globally, and served two tours in Vietnam and went from Private to Staff Sargent at the age of 19. Joseph received the Bronze Medal for his first tour for bringing his platoon of brother home, while for the second tour he received the Purple Heart for brining every brother from his platoon along with three fallen brother back home while being injured himself. He ended his career in the year of 1982 at the rank of First Sargent. He also started a career as Chief of police of the Quileute Tribe, Lakewood WA and retired as a correctional officer.
Joseph had a big golden heart! To him it did not matter who you were, rather you knew him or not, he was always lending a helping hand and never asked for anything in return. He enjoyed doing beading, carving and drawing he was very artistic. Joseph also loved to work on cars, construction work such as cementing, roofing, painting and many more. He loved to go hunting and fishing, he even assisted in the fishing wars and met Judge George Bolt. Joseph loved to sing and dance to music such as Otis Redding, Etta James, Tammy Wynette and Freddy Fender. Joseph loved to spread his knowledge by telling his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren of stories from his childhood and war stories, while teaching them everyday life skills and being the best father and grandfather he could be, as he would always say he loved all his grandchildren the “mostest” and each and every one of them were beautiful and handsome.
He is proceeded in death by his (father and mother) Manuel and Juanita Figueroa, (wife) Regina Figueroa of 40 years (sisters) Rosie, Carmen and Minnie (brothers) Manuel Jr. and Tony (daughter) Angie Cooper (grandson) Andrew Napier (granddaughter) Larissa McCoy Green-Strack.
He is survived by children: Melissa Scearcy (Julio), Joseph “Dodie” Davis (Meghan), Christina Block (Fred), Cheryl McLean (Jim), Jerry Cooper, Gilda Obi-Davis, Jojo “Puncho” Martinez, Carrie “Nene” Martinez and Angela “Angie” Strack. Grandchildren: Paige (Darrel) Saige (Alecia), Robert (Beatrice), Rueben Rain, Jevon (Jodie), Ashley (On Ofre), Jennifer ( Ricardo), Tony (Mercedes), Isabelle (Zack), Ava, Jeffrey, Johnation, Candice, Chelsea, Murissa, Laura (Joe) Evan, Angelice, Victor (Angelina) Tyler Joseph, Jerrid, Joey and Jocelyn. 30 total great grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild, numerous nices , nephews and friends.
