Joseph V. Bishop's Obituary
Joseph Vernon Bishop was born in Johnson City, Tennessee, February 21, 1930 to Ernest and Thelma Bishop. July 10, 2016 at 12:33 Joe went home to be with our Lord and savior and is no longer tormented by Alzheimer's.
Early in life he and his brother, Tom worked with their father in their family meat market. He and Tom spent a lot of time hiking in the hills of Tennessee. In high school he was very active in tennis, golf and the local ROTC. When he was 21 he enlisted in the Air Force. After basic training he was stationed in such places as Greenland, Germany and several stateside bases. He retired at McChord AFB in 1973.
He then pursued a career in real estate which he was quite successful at. After which he and his 2nd wife, Shirley built their home in Lakewood where he spent a good deal of his time working in his yard. When not taking pride in his home you would find him on the golf course or playing that occasional game of tennis. When he could no longer participate he enjoyed spending his time watching sports on TV, especially golf.
He was survived by his wife, Shirley, daughters, Karen Ivie (Gary), Kathy Hieb, and my daughter Kristina Hoffman and sons Gregg Baumeier (Nedra) and Scott Baumeier, grandchildren, Ryan, Taylor, Nicholas, Brandi, Tommy and Cody, as well as Joe's brother Tom, and various nephews, nieces and cousins.
