Josefa Mangaccat Culanag
May 9th, 1920 – February 2nd, 2017
Josefa was born on May 9th, 1920 in Bayombong, Nueva Vizcaya in the Philippines. Her mother was Ambrossia Gannaban and her father was Andino Mangaccat. She was the second oldest of four sisters and three brothers. Josefa married Luke Guyud Culanag and had three sons, Robert, Don and Anthony. She has five grandchildren Jennifer, Alyssa, Edward, Elenamarie and Remy. Josefa adored her grandchildren, which gave her the strength to live longer in her later years.
Josefa was an elementary school teacher teaching in the Philippines and later in the United States. She received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education from Pacific Lutheran University. She taught at All Saints, Visitation and Holy Rosary School. "Her dedication to teaching the students was her strength along with compassion and patience".
One of Josefa’s best traits was her kindness, caring and tolerance. Everyone that met Josefa for the first time would say she is the sweetest person they have ever encountered. That was her gift to the world.
Josefa loved to worked in the garden and created amazing crochet designs. She was part of the Saint John Bosco choir and enjoyed the company of her friends in the choir. Josefa had pets around the house that made her happy and enjoyed life with the dogs and cats that have lived with her throughout her life.
Josefa, wife, mother, grandmother and educator will be deeply missed by everyone who knew her. She is with God along with her mother, father, husband, sisters, brothers and all of her friends.
