As new deputies Jon was my favorite partner for graveyard shifts. We had a lot of fun and made a lot of arrests on that shift. One of favorite memories was finding a drunk GI passed out on Far West Drive. He was sitting behind the wheel of his running car with the window down apparently counting what he had left of his paycheck as he had his money clutched in his hands. We debated what to do as the sun was coming up. Jon suggested that we put his money in his shirt pocket, roll up the window, shut the car off and throw the keys under the car to prevent him from driving anytime soon. We checked on him a couple of hours later. The car was still there but he wasn't, probably a long walk home.
Riding with Jon was a pleasure, he was always low keyed and to my knowledge never let anyone get under his skin while doing the job. He knew when to make arrests and when to us the discretion that we had. He will be missed.
