Jon P. Meyer's Obituary
Jon P. Meyer, known by all as Pat Meyer of Spanaway, WA suddenly passed away August 11, 2024 at 64 from a brain hemorrhage.
Pat was born on March 18, 1960 to Georgette & Paul Meyer in Puyallup, WA. He grew up in Puyallup, the youngest of four siblings. After graduating from Rogers High School in 1978, he went on to work all sorts of odd jobs with his best friend, Marty Hamre. From painting houses, to dabbling with woodworking, to his favorite job of all, working at Tower Records.
In 1982, Pat was a maintenance worker at the Tacoma Mall when a co-worker told him about a friend of his who just moved to WA who also worked at the mall, and thought they would be two peas in a pod. Pat was introduced to Debbie Dunwoody and they fell in love almost instantly. They made a deal that if they could live together for 5 years first, then they knew they would be able to spend the rest of their lives together.
In the winter of 1983, Pat started his journey at Clover Park Vocational Tech to earn his certification in Telecommunications. Debbie was Pat’s biggest support through school while they both worked full time with opposite schedules. It only took him a year and a half (6 months ahead of schedule) to earn his certificate. He graduated in the summer of 1984 and immediately went to work for Baker, his first job in the telecommunications industry.
Pat went on to work for another telecommunications company a handful of years later, Page Telecom. The company went through multiple buyouts, owners, and locations yet Pat stayed loyal to them for almost 40 years. He saw the dawn of the internet change how we use telephones and communicate with one another, and he was always ready and willing to expand his knowledge to keep up with an ever-changing industry.
After 5 years with the love of his life, Debbie, they were married. Another 5 years later, in 1992, their only child, Katharine (Kate) Georgette Meyer was born.
Pat was a force of nature, determined to provide for his family and give them the life he felt they deserved. His wife and daughter meant more to him than anything else in the world, something he often mentioned. Pat and Debbie took Kate on countless camping trips as far west as North & South Dakota and road trips as far south as Reno, NV. Pat made sure to share his love of sports (baseball, football & NASCAR) and music with Kate from an early age. Though, as she got older, he spent many hours over the years shopping at the mall or taking her and her friends to see some of their favorite bands.
Anyone who knew Pat knew that he was the most loving dad and husband a family could ask for. Pat was predeceased by his mother, Georgette and his father, Paul. He is survived by his wife Debbie; daughter Kate; his three siblings, Paula (and husband, Mike), Mary Lou, and Ken; and his nieces and nephews, Lenny, Chris, Jeff, Gina, Erin, Kelly, and Dana.
There will be a private Celebration of Life for immediate family & close friends in Tacoma on Sunday, September 1st.
