John A. Woodworth's Obituary
John “Hotmix” Woodworth passed peacefully on December 1, 2024, in Tacoma Washington at the age of 86. He was born on September 4, 1938, to parents John Alden and Virginia Woodworth.
John was a proud graduate of both Stadium High School and the University of Washington, earning a civil engineering degree there. John carried that degree to the family road building business, Woodworth and Company where he was president from 1973 to 1997. With his 3rd generation leadership, the company flourished with a reputation unmatched in the industry. In the earlier years of this period, John had the honor of serving in the United States Army Reserves for 8 years, attaining the rank of Captain.
He also served many leadership roles in business including the National Asphalt Paving Association, the Washington Asphalt Paving Association, and the Associated General Contractors of Washington along with numerous associated industry tasks forces.
John also left an impactful philanthropic legacy, donating both his time and resources to local causes and serving on numerous boards, such as MultiCare, the United Way, and the YMCA of Pierce and Kitsap Counties.
He leaves behind his wife Judy of 64 years, His children Jill Woodworth and Jeff (Nancy) Woodworth, Grandchildren Broc Woodworth, Derek (Kelly) Woodworth, Peter Woodworth, Taylor (Bailey) Martin, Alex (Jason) Dunfee along with 5 Great Grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his sister Alice Cheron.
John left a deep impact on his family and community and to all who knew him. He will never be forgotten. GO HUSKIES!
