John Uram, son of Nick and Anne, was born on October 15, 1916 in Buhl, Minnesota. John passed away on June 29, 2008. He moved to Alderwood Manor, Washington with his father in 1922. John joined the army at age 17 and served during WWII in the European Theater. He transferred to the Air Force in 1947 and retired as Chief Warrant Officer in 1956; later the family moved back to Alderwood Manor.
Two of his later jobs were with the US Postal Service and the Boeing Co. John was active in the Veterans of Foreign Wars, first as a Service Officer and then as State Quartermaster for ten years. He was a life member of VFW Post 10018. A member of the Air Force Association, the Association of Uniformed Officers and life member of Military Officers Association of America.
He was a loving husband, father and grandfather, survived by his loving wife, Lois, of 24 years, first wife Virgina Uram; and children Nick (Barbara) Uram, Allyn, WA; Ginger (Boyd) Ericksen, Coppell, TX; Steve (Carolyn) Uram, Everett, WA; Rick (Cindy) Uram, Salem, OR; and Dorothy (Charles) Jones, Everett. Step children Leslie Woodell, Cindy (Tracy) Rigtrup, Ted Gross, all of Renton and Tiare (Nick) Bailey, Pt. Ludlow. There are 24 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren and his Dachshunds, Danny and Carly.
A celebration of Life service will be held Saturday July 5th 2008 at 1pm at Mountain View Funeral Home, 4100 Steilacoom Blvd SW, Lakewood, followed by a reception at VFW Post 10018, 4741 N Baltimore, Tacoma. Internment will be at Tahoma National Cemetery in Kent, Washington.
