John Richard Axel Lorenzen LTC USA (ret)
Our beloved "Buba", husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather was called to Heaven in his 93rd year on October 31, 2008, surrounded by his loving family. He was preceded in death by wife Diana, son Russell, infant son John Andrew, his parents, and his sisters Edna DeVisser, Eleanor Fuller, and June Zachreson. John was born in Salt Lake City, Utah to Axel and Karen Marie Lorenzen on November 14, 1914. His childhood years were spent in the Salt Lake Valley. He was called to military service during WWII and served with distinction for more than 30 years. He married Diana Addison, his British sweetheart, in 1947. Together they raised a family and traveled to military duty stations throughout the world. He concluded his military service at Fort Lewis, Washington as Commanding Office of the 80th Ordnance Battalion in 1967. After military retirement he managed Baydo's Trailer Equipment. In his later years Dad enjoyed gardening, travel with his sisters, and especially his lifetime membership in the Henry A. Green Masonic Lodge. His greatest pleasure was having cookie picnics with his great-grandchildren. John is survived by his daughter Lindsay Lorenzen Shuster (Dee), son Richard Selander and daughter-in-law Jaclyn Petersen (Jeff), granddaughter Cynthia Selander, grandsons Christopher Jackson (Deanna), Gregory Jackson, Aksel Lorenzen, Samuel Lorenzen and Jeffrey Selander, as well as great-grandchildren Aiden and Ella Jackson. John is remembered and loved by many nieces, nephews, and cherished friends. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 8, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. in the Mountain View Garden Chapel, 4100 Steilacoom Blvd., Lakewood, WA 98499, with reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, 530 Dexter Ave. N., Seattle, WA 98109.
