John R. Hanson

John passed away in Olympia, WA. He was born to John and Anna in Worcester, MA. He joined the Navy 1936; served in the South Pacific and Alaska during World War II. He retired from the Navy as a chief Boilerman in 1956. He was in the Reserves until 1966. In 1956 he went to work for Tidewater Oil and later Container Corp. until the early O80s. He married the love of his life, Clare in 1940. They had many good years camping, fishing and boating. She died in O92 after a long illness. John was her constant caregiver for the last few years of her life. He has endured the rigors of Alzheimer's for about ten years. He put up a valiant battle to the end. He is survived by his stepson Chris Sternagel (Iola) and three grandsons and his niece Susan Curwen. Donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association. There will a viewing at Mt. View Funeral Home 3pm, July 9, followed by a graveside service at 3:30pm, at Mt. View Memorial Park, 4100 Steilacoom Blvd. SW, Lakewood, WA. 253-584-0252.
