John Monroe's Obituary
John H. Monroe was born to the late Jesse Monroe and Janie Shaw on October 25, 1921 in Kingstree, SC. On August 17, 2011 he peacefully passed away at American Lake VA Hospital in Washington.
When he was four years old, his family moved to Perry, FL where he grew up with three brothers, Jesse, Jr. (deceased)(Ruth), Aaron (deceased) (Katie), William (Juanita); two sisters, Nancy Crowell and Janie Mae (Thomas) Jones.
At the age of 17 years old, at the start of WWII, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and was assigned to the 24th Infantry Division. He was a staff Sergeant when he left. John was a WWII veteran who stood tall, proud and strong filled with an undeniable spirit of patriotic pride.
He started his career as a Truck Driver after military. He had three lovely daughters, Ruby Jane Britt (Perry, FL), Johnnie Mae Richards (Virginia Beach, VA), Annie Ruth Williams (deceased). He leaves to cherish his lovely memories to his wife of 20 years, Roberta S. Monroe. A host of step-children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, many relatives and friends. He will greatly be missed and forever loved.
