John L. Metcalfe's Obituary
John L. Metcalfe, 79, of Tacoma, Washington, passed away peacefully on December 25, 2025. Born on October 1, 1946, in Lima, Ohio, to Marion and Betty Metcalfe, John lived a life marked by devotion, service, and love.
John was a proud American who served his country with honor as a mechanic in the U.S. Army, retiring after 20 years of dedicated service. His commitment to excellence and his mechanical skills were well known, and his passion for cars continued throughout his life. Tinkering with vehicles was more than a hobby—it was a joy that reflected his curiosity and craftsmanship.
After his military career, John embarked on a second chapter as an employee of Budget Car Rental, where he continued to share his expertise and work ethic. He was an avid football fan, always cheering for his favorite teams, and he had a special bond with his beloved dog, Pickles.
John was a devoted husband to Kyong Metcalfe for 52 wonderful years. Together, they raised their daughter Cheryl, who brought immeasurable pride and happiness to his life. His family was his greatest treasure.
He is survived by his daughter, Cheryl Metcalfe; granddaughter, Chrystal Thomas; two great-grandchildren, Allen Thomas and Noah Moots; sisters, Judith Kriegel, Ann Pittel, and Mary Jo Foust; and brothers, Daniel Metcalfe and Bill Metcalfe. John now joins in eternal rest his parents and his sister, Sharon Lucas.
