Lance Alderman
I am a little late in my condolences. I never met John but recently got his book "Cruisers for Breakfast: The War Patrols of USS Darter and USS Dace". Then it becomes like one of those six degrees of separation, so John and I are indirectly connected, but the connection is more than just being brother submariners. John served on USS Menhaden which was manned by crew of the former USS Darter in the latter days of WWII. John served on Menhaden in the Nam era. I served on the second USS Darter a little later (named for the WWII boat and crew that first served on John's boat). I knew others on the first Darter and Menhaden (so perhaps we had mutual connections there). I came looking for John to try and connect with him but a little too late. So instead, I wish him farewell with fair winds and following seas, but John can know that others have the watch and will carry on in his absence in the submarine community.
