John Joseph Kenyon's Obituary
John Joseph Kenyon
7-23-39 to 1-10-10
John was born in South Kingston, Rhode Island to Margaret and Henry Kenyon. He was the third of nine children brought up on a dairy farm. There he learned to work hard, play hard and value family above anything else. He graduated from the University of Rhode Island and joined the Army to serve for 3 years in the Special Forces. John spent 36 years in the real estate business in Tacoma, developing his own company, Western Commercial Mortgage. An excellent athlete himself, John enjoyed working with children in different team sports. He was always ready to play a game. Neighborhood boys would knock at our door asking if "your husband" can come out and play. Having two grandsons who played sports gave him the chance to help coach and be involved with the Norpoint and Northeast Tacoma baseball, basketball and soccer teams. He was a devoted Grandfather to all, who enjoyed his last years being involved in youth sports. He is survived by his wife, Sherrie, daughter Corina (Sam) Barker and two grandsons, Drew and Logan. He is also survived by 5 siblings: Charles in Florida, Madeline in Puerto Rico, Mike in New York, Rita and Fran in Rhode Island. A memorial service will be held at the Centre at Norpoint, 4818 Nassau Ave. NE, Tacoma on Sunday, Jan. 31 from 3 to 6 PM. In the spirit of John, we will share memories, fellowship and a pick-up basketball game (from 4 to 6). Donations may be made to Big Brothers, Big Sisters of Puget Sound, 2107 So. 12th, Tacoma, WA 98405.
