John W. Hurst, a devoted husband, proud veteran, and cherished member of his community, passed away on June 27, 2025, at the age of 87. Born in Roxboro, North Carolina, on May 3, 1938, and raised in Philadelphia, John lived a life defined by service, love, and a deep appreciation for the natural world.
John enjoyed a long and successful career in the United States Army, where he served with honor and distinction. His military service was a source of great pride, and the discipline, leadership, and camaraderie he experienced shaped the man he became.
Outside of his military career, John was a man of many passions. He found joy in gardening, birdwatching, and painting hieroglyphics—an artistic hobby that reflected his curiosity and creativity. An avid outdoorsman, he loved fishing, range shooting, and spending time in nature. He also enjoyed golfing, often finding peace and companionship on the green. A lifelong animal lover, he always had a loyal dog by his side—his constant companion through many of life’s chapters.
Above all, he shared a deep and enduring love with his wife, Ingrid, cherishing their time together and the life they built side by side.
He is survived by Ingrid, his beloved wife; his grandchildren, who brought him endless joy; and a wide circle of friends and extended family who will miss his warmth, wisdom, and steady presence.
John Hurst lived a full and meaningful life, leaving behind a legacy of service, love, and quiet strength. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
