SFC (Ret.) John Axt SFC (Ret.)
John Axt passed peacefully at his home July 6, 2008. He was born February 21, 1915 in Goodrich, N.D. to Frederick and Sophie Axt, both recent immigrants to the U.S. John is survived by his wife of 58 years, Emily Pearl (Jenkins). Also, sisters Leona Vineyard of Ferndale, Wa., Liz (Don) Burger of Sumas, Wa. and extended families, his children Joanne (Bruce) MacKintosh, Janette (Brian) Smith, Rick (Loretta) Axt, Robert Axt, grandchildren Michael, Dani, Erin, Desi, Darren, Cullen, Josh, and great grandchildren Zakk, Jake, and Tylor. John farmed in Whatcom County until being called to serve during WWII and he continued to serve his country in numerous posts in Europe, Africa, and the U.S. until his retirement in 1965. Dad always worked hard and was open and honest to all. He read his Bible in the privacy of his home and held his own counsel. We should all live to be as content as he. Graveside services with military honors will be held at Mt. View Memorial Park, Lakewood, Wa. July 12th at 1:30 p.m. with viewing beforehand.
