Joaquin "Jack" Reyes' Obituary
A Life of Service, Heritage, and Joy
Joaquin Camacho Reyes, 77, of Puyallup, WA, and originally from Agana Heights, Guam, passed away peacefully on July 7, 2025, surrounded by loved ones.
A proud and dedicated veteran of the United States Army, Joaquin served honorably from January 1968 to January 1990. His distinguished 22-year military career included active duty during the Vietnam War and four overseas deployments. Rising to the rank of First Sergeant (1SG), he was known for his steadfast leadership, professionalism, and unwavering commitment to those he served alongside.
After retiring from the military, Joaquin continued his life of service and leadership in the community. He was one of the founding members of Grupun Minagof, a cultural organization established in 1999 by Chamorro Americans in Washington State. Grupun Minagof — meaning “joy” or “happiness” in Chamorro — was created to preserve and celebrate Chamorro traditions and identity while living far from Guam. Through cultural gatherings, fiestas, and acts of community service, Joaquin helped nurture a sense of connection, unity, and pride among the local Chamorro diaspora.
Joaquin is survived by his loving wife, Patricia Reyes, and their children:
• Tanya (Angel) and grandchildren Angel Joaquin, Francisco (Jovelle)
• Bert (Annie) and grandchildren Elijah, Jonah, and Abigail
Joaquin begins his eternal life reunited with his beloved parents, Ana Camacho and Bertrand Maratita Reyes.
He was one of sixteen siblings and is remembered with love by each of them and their spouses:
• Antonio C. † (Encarnacion C.) Reyes †
• Norberto C. † (Masae N.) Reyes
• Cynthia R. Gogo (Crispin Taitano)
• Erna R. (Robert †) Shaw

• Bertrand C. (Genevieve T.) Reyes
• Bridget C. (Ralph) Bautista
• Jeremiah C. (Maria L. Mendez) Reyes
• Rosita C. Reyes (Gregory Rios)
• William C. (Marilyn T.) Reyes
He will be remembered not only for his honorable military service, but for his deep devotion to family, heritage, and community. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, cousin, uncle, friend, and soldier — a man whose kindness, strength, and generous spirit left a lasting impression on all who knew him.
He lived a life rooted in purpose, shaped by service, and filled with joy.
“Well done, good and faithful servant.”—Matthew 25:23
