Joanne L. Queen's Obituary
In Loving Memory of Joanne L. Queen
Joanne Louise Davis was born in San Francisco, California on March 12, 1971 to her late parents Dr. David Davis and Dr. Anne Louise Davis. Joanne is survived by her husband, Shawn Queen and their three children, Myles, Elena, and Gabrielle, and has four siblings, Bryon (deceased), Lance, Eloise, and John Davis. She attended and excelled at Montgomery Blair High School in her hometown of Silver Spring, MD graduating in June 1989.
In the fall of 1989, she started her first year at Elon College (now called Elon University), in North Carolina. On April 20, 1991, Joanne was initiated into the Omicron Iota Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority. Jo along with her six line sisters were known as the “7 True Wonders.” Being the tallest of the line, she was #7. As a sorority member, Jo participated in many public service projects and was a part of the 1991 and 1992 step teams that took home first place trophies each year. Jo will be forever remembered by her sisters for her bubbly personality, free-spirit, and her beautiful infectious smile. Over the course of four years, Joanne would earn her bachelor’s degree in Communications. After graduation, Joanne moved to Seattle, WA and began her career in retail sales at Nordstrom's flagship store. In the summer of 1994, she found her calling working in customer service and started out as an Assistant Customer Service Manager. She was promoted in less than 2 years to head the Northgate Nordstrom as Customer Service Manager. It was during this time she met the love of her life, Shawn Queen.
Joanne and Shawn were joined in holy matrimony on May 29, 2000 by Elder Albert Lee Mitchell. After the birth of their son Myles, Joanne took on the full-time role of mother and homemaker. Soon after, Myles was joined by his two younger sisters, Elena and Gabrielle. Joanne was instrumental in the intellectual, physical and spiritual growth and development of her children. She was an incredibly dedicated wife, mother, sister, aunt, and friend. Joanne combined a strong work ethic with a constant focus on self improvement, which set an exceptional example for her children and provided them with tools and answers to their many questions. Joanne was an amazing cook, whipping up dishes like pork butt tacos and chicken parm. She also was an excellent baker, producing cookies and cakes and other sweets to satisfy everyone's sweet tooth, including hers. Joanne was known for being a genuine friend - beautiful inside and out. She was a loving and devoted wife, who had found her soulmate in Shawn. She attended Bethlehem Baptist Church with her husband and family.
After many years in Seattle, Joanne moved with her family for 10 years to Austin, TX in pursuit of sunshine and warmer weather. In her commitment to educating her family, Jo established the Queen Academy and was active in the Texas HSA (Home School Association) connecting with other homeschoolers to help hone her craft as an educator. In 2017, she returned to the Seattle area with her family.
Joanne was many things to many people. A daughter, sister, loving wife, adoring mother, aunt, line sister, friend, confidant. In each of these roles, she shared her genuine happiness bringing a smile to your face and joy in your heart. She was our biggest cheerleader no matter the situation. Her absence leaves a void in each of us. She will be forever missed.
A service celebrating her life, will be held 2:00 PM Friday, July 12, 2019 in the Aspen Chapel at Mountain View Funeral Home & Memorial Park, Lakewood.
