Joanne I. LaPlante Joanne was born on March 15, 1933 in St. Joseph's Hospital in Tacoma, and passed away peacefully surrounded by family on February 22, 2012. She was 78. Her personal love story began exactly 60 years to the day of her passing, when she met the love of her life, her husband Royal, on George Washington's birthday in 1952. Their 60th wedding anniversary was to be celebrated in October of this year. Joanne graduated from Clover Park High School in 1951 and attended Central Washington College for a year before marrying and settling down to raise a family. As her husband Roy progressed from a teacher to a high school principal, she had the opportunity to live in Italy and Germany in the late 1950s and early 1960s, and also in Spain and again Germany in the 1980s. She and Roy travelled the world together, seeking adventure in their lifelong journey together. Eventually returning to Washington State, she gathered many friends in Pullman, Longview, Chelan, Concrete, and Fairfield before retiring with Roy to their hometown of Tacoma in 1991. Joanne was a giving, strong-willed individual who cherished her family above all else, and will always be known for her playful nature and good wit. She touched many people in her life and will be remembered by all those lucky enough to call her wife, mother, or friend. Hers was a life well-lived indeed. She is survived by her faithful husband, Royal A. LaPlante, Jr., three devoted sons, Royal III and his wife Kim, Marc, and Joe and his wife Debi. She is additionally survived by her brother Donald F. Corfman and his wife Alice, her sister-in-law Betty Larson, and her loving grandchildren Kimberly, Ashley, Karianne, Royal IV, and Benjamin.
