Joanne G. Candler's Obituary
Joanne "Jo" Candler was born December 27, 1929 to parents Arthur and Alma Goodrick in Spokane, and passed away on September 15, 2017 in Tacoma.
Jo graduated from Stadium High School in 1947 (she was proud to have attended her 70th class reunion a month ago). She married Clair Candler in 1949, and they made Tacoma their home until moving to Port Townsend in 1990. Joanne worked for over twenty years for the Tacoma School District. She was adamant about working part-time, so that she would be able to see her two children off to and home from school.
She was known as a very social person, interested in others, always cheerful, and loving of her family and friends. She was a longtime member of Junior Womens Club, Shipmates, Daughters of Norway, Mason Methodist Church, and was in several singing groups. She loved to play bridge and cribbage.
Jo is survived by her husband Clair, son Scott Candler (Mandy), daughter Christine Wittstock (Dick), grandchildren Paul (Emma), John (Natasha), Sally, and Laura Candler and Stephanie Wood, and great-grandsons Thomas and Henry Candler.
A memorial service for Jo will be held at Narrows Glen Retirement Community, where she was a happy resident for the last two years, 8201 6th Avenue, Tacoma, on Sunday, October 15th, at 3 PM.
