Joan Marie Wahl's Obituary
Joan Marie Wahl, passed away on May 8, 2021 at the age of 83. A native of Tacoma, Washington, she was born March 19, 1938 to the late Mary and James Riley.
Joan attended Visitation Catholic School of Tacoma - Class of 1953 and Lincoln High School of Tacoma - Class of 1957.
She married Bob D. Wahl in 1960, they moved into their Manitou home in May of 1962 and raised a family. She continued to live there after Bob's passing in 2008 until March 2017. The years following she resided at Charlton Place Assisted Living in Tacoma, and her final years at Linden Grove Health Care Center in Puyallup.
As a caring woman she was a room mother for many years at Manitou Elementary School. She babysat neighborhood children as well as her own grandchildren in her home. She also worked as a teacher at a local Daycare/Preschool Center. She loved children. She was a long standing member of the Lakes Moose Lodge #1865. She was also a member of the Eagles and AMVETS Post #1 in Tacoma. She loved going to the Friday night meat raffles at the AMVETS. She brought along her children and grandchildren to enjoy the fun. Her door was always open for visitors, friends and family. She loved to entertain. A big pot of Spaghetti was always on for Halloween guests, and her big yearly spreads on Christmas Eve are hard to forget. Drinks and snacks or even a meal was always offered. Nobody went hungry if Joan was around. Even the animals that came her way had treats bestowed on them.
Joan was preceded in death by her husband Bob in 2008. Joan was the pillar of her family and will be greatly missed. She leaves behind her five children: Son-Gary Dean and wife Patti Riley, son-Bob and wife Stacy Wahl, daughter-Lynda and husband Dave DellaSantina, daughter-Laura and husband Tony Aquilina, and daughter-Bonnie and husband Phillip Jeuris. She also leaves behind 15 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. She had one grandchild that preceded her in death.
The family would like to gratefully thank Linden Grove Health Care Center and Franciscan Hospice, especially Helena and Kelsey, for taking the utmost loving care shown to Joan in her final days. Also a thank you to Visitation Catholic Church who have been there through out Joan's life from her education to her children's baptisms to her funeral services. Thank you Fr. Martin Bourke.
