Joan and I met many years ago in McMinnville when her son, Eric, and my step son were playing high school football. We really got to know each other on the ski bus and then did a number of ski trips together over the years. Joan was a wonderful friend and I will miss my ski buddy dearly.

My husband and I became acquainted with Joan over a period of months at Franke Tobey Jones while we were there to visit another resident. We appreciated Joan's friendliness, receptivity to conversation, and lovely smile. It was a highlight to see her every week, and we miss her greatly.

Joan was only 34 when I lived with her and her family as an exchange student 1972. She was so young, she could have been my sister! She became my role model in life on how to be a lady!
She and I went skiing on Mount Hood, quite an adventure as we had to put on snow chains half way up the mountain, but we made it!
As she loved travel as much as I, over the years we met in Paris and Bali. As I always went to my class reunions in McMinnville OR, I also frequently visited Joan and her Gail in their home in Tacoma and not so many years ago she and Gail visited me and my husband in Sweden, both in Stockholm and on our farm on the island Gotland in the Baltic sea.
Our friendship lasted over 50 years, despite the long distance between us.
