Joan Hackman McNabb's Obituary
Joan H. McNabb
The family of Joan H. McNabb mourns her death on October 9, but celebrates her strong and loving spirit. Born on a Nebraska farm in 1925, Joan moved to Des Moines when she was 16. Shortly after arriving, she met Mac, the love of her life, with whom she recently celebrated their 62nd anniversary. She graduated from the University of Washington with a degree in drama, specializing in marionettes. She and Mac raised three daughters B Sandy, Laurie and Meg B and her family later expanded to include Sandy's husband, David Loughhead, and her two grandsons, Scott and Eric. Joan led each of her daughter's Camp Fire Girls groups, eventually serving as a director of the Puget Sound Council. She later became a dedicated volunteer at the Morgan branch of the YMCA, where she took every available exercise class, led tai-chi, served on the Board, and was honored as the Volunteer of the Year for 2001. Never without her mystery and crossword puzzle books, Joan was an avid camper, loved travel B both international and local in their Avion trailer B and enjoyed music of all kinds, gardening and bird-watching. Family always came first, and we will miss her beyond measure. In accordance with her wishes, no memorial service will be held. We know she would encourage you not to send flowers, but to volunteer in her memory at your local YMCA or other community group. And please don't miss an opportunity to say "I love you."
