Joan Faye Cox's Obituary
Joan, born April 23, 1929 in Eugene, Oregon, passed away at home last Friday, July 7, 2006. Joan attended Oregon State University and, in 1948, met her husband-to-be, Bob, at the Roseburg Greyhound Bus Station, while they were en route to summer work at the Oregon Caves; she as waitress in the old Chateau and Bob as a guide.Joan started her career as a Home Economics teacher at Stewart Junior High in Tacoma WA, but she  retiredÂ' early to raise her children, Cathy and Rob. Joan was an active Girl Scout for over 50 years. In the early 1970Â's she was President of the Girl Scout Council and later enjoyed working as the CouncilÂ's professional property manager. Joan finally retired in 1988 when her husband retired from Weyerhaeuser.Retirement was exciting for Joan with the marriage of her children and the births and growing up of grandchildren Bobby and Claire Cox. She enjoyed traveling the world with her husband. They visited every continent except Antarctica (which was next on her list) and spent a month every winter on Maui.Joan thrived on love for her friends and family. Joan is survived by her husband of 56 years, Everett Robert  BobÂ' Cox, Jr., her children Cathy Rivers and Rob Cox, daughter-in-law Denise, and grandchildren Bobby and Claire.A memorial service and reception will be held at 1:00 pm on Friday, July 14th, at Mountain View Memorial Funeral Home and Memorial Park in the Celebration of Life Center.Remembrances may be made to Pacific Peaks Girl Scout Council.
