Jimmy Massey Sr.'s Obituary
Jimmy Mack Massey was the fourth child of ten children born to Mr John Calvin
Massey Sr and Dorothy Martin Massey in Gray Court SC on January 30th, 1955. Jimmy was
named after his mother’s father, Mack Martin and like his grandfather, Jimmy was always
curious and adventurous. There was no challenge that Jimmy would back down from. He graduated from Gray Court Owings High School in Gray Court, SC in 1973.
After Jimmy graduated from high school is when his adventure began. He was
employed at St Joe Paper Company in Laurens, SC. There he learned good hard work and the
value of a dollar. A good job but it wasn’t enough adventure for Jimmy. He decided to
answer the call of God and Country and enlisted in the United States Army. He was stationed
in the very dangerous Demilitarized Zone between North and South Korea for years and fell
in love and married his beautiful wife, Kwang Cha Massey of Seoul, Korea. Jimmy served in
the U.S. Army for over 15 years with Honor before retiring. During his time in the U.S. Army,
Jimmy and Kwang, along with their 2 children, Genevieve & Jimmy, traveled to various parts
of the world. Traveling was a part of the Massey family life and they
enjoyed many adventures together as a family. After retiring from the U.S. Army, during his
last tour in Germany, he and the family moved to Washington State. From there, Jimmy
started working for a trucking company based out of Tacoma Washington. Jimmy continued
to work in the trucking and shipping industry in the Puget Sound area until his
retirement. God had allowed the adventurous son, brother, friend, and father from Gray
Court, SC to live and explore the beauty and nature of the Great Northwest; where fishing is
king. Jimmy’s passion, second only to his loving family, was fishing. Jimmy loved
fishing. What Jimmy loved even more, was his loving family. There wasn’t anything Jimmy
wouldn’t do for his family.
On Friday, February 24 2023 at 1:25pm, Jimmy completed his tenure here on earth and
began his walk with GOD. Jimmy will join his mother Dorothy Martin Massey, his father John
Calvin Massey Sr, sisters Mary Lane Bowser, and Patricia Ann Massey , and brothers John
Calvin Massey Jr , Michael T Massey, and Curtis E. Massey. Jimmy is survived by his beloved
wife of 44 years, Kwang Cha Massey; daughter Genevieve (Jeffery) Henderson, son Jimmy
Mack Massey Jr, sister Debra Massey, brother Charles Massey, brother Keith Massey, and
brother Kevin Massey.
Jimmy Mack Massey Sr loved life and adventure. He also loved to laugh and enjoyed
making others laugh. So many cherished memories of love and laughter, will forever remain
in our hearts. Jimmy was an amazing man and God had touched him from the start with the
wisdom and knowledge that he always shared with others. We will continue to love and
cherish your memory until we meet again, Jimmy (Daddy, Putt).
A Celebration of Life to honor Jimmy Mack’s life will be held on Saturday, March 18th at 2:00
PM at La Quinta Inn & Suites Tacoma located in the Willow Room. His friends, family, and
loved ones are welcome to attend and pay their respects.
In lieu of flowers, grab a fishing pole, some bait and go fishing – he would have wanted that
