Jim "Be-Bop" Thomas was born in Vicksburg, Mississippi, Oct. 15, 1925 to Fronie and Warren Thomas and went home to the Lord on June 7th, 2004. In his young adult years, he migrated to the Portland, Oregon area where several of his relatives lived. Though he had a limited education he had a witty personality and a hard working attitude which landed him a job working for the Alaskan Pipeline. He relocated to Anchorage, Alaska and met Helen Roe Smith, who later became his wife of 43 years on 12/12/1960. After retiring from the Alaska Pipeline he relocated his family to Tacoma, Washington and began working construction with Tucci & Sons and Puget Paving. "Be-Bop" was known for his sense of humor and snappy style. He is survived by his wife, Helen Thomas of Tacoma; 3 daughters: Orabee Wells of Vicksburg, Mississippi, Fahren (Thomas)-Johnson of Seattle and Teresa (Thomas)-Bailey of Bellevue; his son Reginald Thomas of Tacoma, 13 grandchildren, 4 brothers and 3 sisters, his cousin Riley Whitley of Sumner, and he also leaves a host of awesome friends who have had the pleasure of being in his life for many years. Recently accepting Jesus Christ as his personal Lord and Savior the family of "Be-Bop" send him home with a peaceful assurance that he is truly in a place where there is no more pain, no worries, and a truth that as they continue to live a life that represents Christ, they will be re-united again.
