My first memory of my Lola was when we were living in New Orleans. I think she came out one summer to babysit us. She would watch her soap operas and I was introduced to General Hospital and Days of Our Lives. We later moved to California, and we would see her on the road trips to Tacoma. I always remember her smile and how she cooked us lots of Spam. She always seem like the center of our family, all roads lead back to her.
I have lots of fun memories of Lola. Not only from watching her play the slot machines and mahjong, but other events like the time we took her to a Lionel Richie concert (yes I know I'm dating myself when I mention this!) Anyhow, we're talking a loud rock concert and she fell asleep. That's my Lola.
As we went through the ups and downs of family life, she was there for emotional support to help out however she could. She was very devoted to her children and grandchildren, even great-grandchildren. Many of us thought her not only as a grandmother but also a mother.
She suffered a lot in the end, it pained me to see her in that bed. But now she's in a much better place, in the arms of Jesus. Revelations 21:4 says that she's in a place where there be no more suffering and no more tears. In Matthew 23:25 God says "Well done, good and faithful servant. Come share in your masters happiness". I'm envisioning God saying that to her as she enters the gates of heaven. It gives me a great sense of peace knowing she's in good hands. We will miss her greatly.
Psalm 90:10 states that a normal life span is 70 years but if because of special mightiness 80. Ms. Ramos certainly lived a long life and I'm sure was dearly loved by her family and friends. May you all find comfort and hope in our Heavenly Fathers promise to very soon bring about a changed condition to this earth where sickness and death will be done away with (Rev. 21:4,5) and there will be a bringing back to life instead of losing. (John 5:28,29)
