Jessie Berry Trotter's Obituary
Jessie Berry Trotter was born April 3, 1929 in Monticello, Arkansas to Mary and Garfield Trotter. He passed away on April 2, 2020 one day before his 91st birthday at St. Joseph’s hospital in Tacoma, Washington. He is loved by many family and friends and will be deeply missed by all that knew him. Jessie is survived by his loving wife Ryoko, his wife of 65 years and son Walter along with his four grandchildren; Lance, Alisha, Ashley, Walter Jr. and many other family members.
Jessie enlisted in the US Army when he was 19 years young and served in the military for more than 20 years. He fought in the Korean War and retired as an E-8 Master Sergeant. During his military career Jessie earned several medals including the: 1) Army Commendation Medal with 1 bronze oak leaf cluster; 2) Good Conduct Medal, 4th award; 3) Army of Occupation Medal with Japan clasp; 4) National Defense Service Medal; 5) Korean Service Medal; and 6) United Nations Service Medal. After retiring from the US Army, Jessie worked as a Civil Service employee for the Veterans Hospital caring for veteran’s in need and again retired with over 20 years of service.
Jessie lived a full and active life until he became ill the week before his death. He was a strong man with a sense of humor who took honor in being fair, just and giving. He cherished his wife deeply as she meant the world to him and he always tried to help family, friends and those who were less fortunate than him.
Jessie was laid to rest on April 14, 2020 at Mountain View Memorial Park, Lakewood, Washington in a private committal ceremony. He was preceded in death by his older brother Robert, his younger brother Willie and the youngest sibling, his sister Verdell.
