SFC Ret Jessie Glenn Steeley
Jessie Glenn Steeley, 72, died December 17, 2010 in Puyallup, surrounded by his family. He was born in Stewart County, Tennessee on September 15, 1938, the 5th child of Robert and Lola Mae Steeley.
After spending three years in the U.S. Air Force, Jessie joined the U.S. Army, serving his country for over 20 years. His military career took him to England, Germany and Korea, as well as numerous bases in the United States. He served during the Vietnam War. After retiring from the military, he went to work for Boeing as an aircraft mechanic until 2001.
Jessie had a longtime love for all types of aircraft. He was an amateur radio enthusiast, his call sign being WA7TNY. His other interests included photography, computers, Bluegrass music and NASCAR racing.
Jessie is survived by his beloved wife Valerie, son and daughter-in-law Glen and Lisa Steeley, son and daughter-in-law Gary Steeley and Dr. Laura Chesak, daughter Aimee Steeley, grandchildren Emily and Evan Steeley, brother and sister-in-law John and Anne Steeley, sisters Lorene Lehman, Margaret Rebecca Campbell, Martha J. Atkins, and Betty Dotson, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Robert Steeley.
A memorial service will be held in the Garden Chapel at Mountain View Memorial Park in Lakewood, Monday, December 20th at 2pm. The family encourages donations to the American Heart Association and the American Cancer Society.
