I was just thinking of Mr. Ramsey. I was his teacher’s assistant at Stadium High School in 1990 and 91. I so looked up to him. Several years after graduating in 91, I went back to talk with him and check in with him. I figured he had long since retired, hence thinking about him today. I was looking to see if he was still in the Gig Harbor area and I was going to try to meet up with him.
My best memory of Mr. Ramsey was when he asked if I would be interested in going to University of Washington over a weekend to attend a program called model United Nations. If anyone else had asked I would have declined but for him I gladly accepted. I came from a very modest background and Mr. Ramsey arrived at my house in a beautiful Porsche. I felt like a king for a day. Even just having lunch with him that weekend in Seattle, looking back now, it seemed like I had won the lottery. Maybe the highlight of High School for me was that weekend. I’m not sure if he even knew how much he molded my life with all of our time together. I considered him a friend as much as my teacher.
I so wished that I had looked him up a little bit earlier. I wish his family and friends my heartfelt condolences on his passing. I hope he knew just how many people that were blessed by knowing Mr. Ramsey. My love of history and the man I am today is because the time that I spent with him. May God bless him and give him eternal peace and joy. He will be missed. Thank you for everything, Mr. Ramsey.
