Eileen Straley
Vern and Jennie were a couple in our ward that 'stood out' for the way of sharing....radiating..... their love for each other and even toward the members of the Church.. Hand in hand, smiles on faces, greeting friends and strangers alike.
Over the years, particularly long before Bro. Wheeler passed, I would see them with smiles on their faces WALKING along the side of the road with Summit Trading (store) behind them. The first time I saw them, I stopped and asked where they were headed and could I give them a ride. Bro. Wheeler told me he had locked the keys to their car in the car and were walking home to get the extra set. I invited them to get in my car and off we traveled blocks to their home to get the keys and return to Summit Trading!
About a year later, here they were walking again when I saw them ....only this time they were almost to their house. I turned around and pulled up in front of them. Patriarch Wheeler raised his arm in the air and said, "oh, Sis. Straley, we did it again!"
I only remember this occurring three times, but it was a pure pleasure to be of help.
It brings a smile to my face knowing they have been reunited. I have a great love for them and for you, their family...the remarks shared by them at the funeral were touching and interesting. We all stand ready to be of help to you in any way.
Sincerely,
Eileen Straley Fruitland Ward
