Jenna "J-Max" M. Martin's Obituary
On Wednesday, 3 July 2019, Jenna Marie Maxfield Martin, loving wife and mother of 2 children, passed away at the age of 45.
Jenna was born on 20 March 1974 in Tacoma, WA to Phillip Lee and Ani Clipper (Watene) Maxfield. She received her bachelor’s degree in communication and public relations from Brigham Young University, at Provo, Utah in 1996. In addition, she attended the BYU campus at Laie, Hawaii, and danced at the Polynesian Cultural Center. She served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Rochester New York Mission in 1997.
Soon after, she used her communication and public relations skills supporting political campaigns at Washington, D.C., and carried it forward to the Winter Olympics at Salt Lake City, UT in 2002. Jenna became interested in the beauty industry and chose to follow her passion. She attended the Gene Juarez Academy, Federal Way to become a hair stylist. Upon graduation, she practiced in the Seattle area on her own accord with JMAXX Salon.
Jenna also had a true passion for her Maori heritage, as well as other Polynesian cultures. At BYU she joined the dance group, Lamanite Generation, and traveled about the US and abroad sharing these cultures.
In 2001, Jenna sailed from Europe to the East Coast stopping in Bermuda. While there she met her “husband to be”. After years of conversing over great distances, Jenna moved to Bermuda in 2006 to be with John and continue her profession. In 2008, she married John Bryson Martin at a small service overlooking the ocean. Soon after they became the proud parents of twins, Savannah Abigail Martin and Bryson Makao Martin.
For Jenna and John, the twins education was of the utmost importance, as well as spending time as a family. They soon began homeschooling the twins from their secluded island home with Jenna leading the charge. This time together was very meaningful as Jenna was diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer in 2014.
The role she played in her children’s lives will not be forgotten.
Her family and friends will remember Jenna for her grace, beautiful smile that lit up the room and her warm, kind, and giving nature.
She is survived by her husband, John; children, Savannah, Bryson; parents Phillip and Ani; siblings, David, Letitia, Joseph and James; and several cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Her funeral service will be held on Saturday, 13 July 2019, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1102 South Pearl, Tacoma. A viewing begins at 9 am and the service at 10 am. Flowers may be sent to Mountain View Memorial Park, 4100 Steilacoom Blvd SW, Lakewood WA 98499, and donations can be made at the following link: https://www.gofundme.com/f/jenna-to-the-max?
