Jeff Matthews Jr.'s Obituary
Jeff Matthews Jr., went home to be with the Lord Saturday, March 11, 2017. Jeff was born April 18, 1937 in Lisbon, Louisiana to the late Jeff and Savannah Matthews. He was the tenth child of twelve.
Jeff graduated from Homer High School in Homer, Louisiana. Jeff then joined the United States Army, and after his two years' commitment with the Army, he was released with a honorable discharged.
Jeff married Lue Dessa Bissic and from that union one son was born, his very own look alike.
After the passing of his wife Lue Dessa, Jeff mae the journey to Tacoma, Washington to live with his baby sister Evelyn and her late husband, Lawrence Brown his running buddy. Not long after he arrived in Tacoma he found employment at Zydell and was employed there until they closed. From there he became employed with the Bremerton Ship Yard, where he worked as a welder until his retirement after fifteen years. Jeff was a faithful and hard worker.
Jeff joined the Shiloh Baptist Church on March 4, 2001.
Jeff met and married Gloria Hunter. Gloria passed and after years of Gloria passing, Jeff re-kindle an old relationship with Francis Cooper from Lisbon, Louisiana. It was a healthy long distant relationship, they would talk four to five times a day. Francis would send him her delicious pound cake. He would freeze most of the pound cake and shared it with no one. They became great friends and companions to one another.
Jeff's hobbies were fishing, watching football, especially the Seahawks, cooking, and barbequing. Jeff was just a happy kind of person. He valued his friend with longtime friend Sonny and many others.
Jeff Matthews was preceded in death by his parents, Jeff & Savannah, brothers, Johnny Bob Matthews, & Gene Matthews. Sisters, Annie Matthews Cameron, Irene Matthews, Jewell Lee Matthews, Jessie Vator Matthews Williams & Margie Matthew Plummer.
Jeff leaves to cherish his memory two sons, Anthony (Diane) Matthews of Douglasville, GA. Bobby Cooper of Lisbon, Louisiana. Step Sons, Dirk Hunter of San Jose, California, Darrell Hunter, Birmingham Alabama, Donald Hunter of Tacoma, WA. Step Daughters, Terri and Eva of Tacoma, WA. And Longtime friend Francis Cooper. Four sisters Juanita Matthews of Bernice, Louisiana, Elsie Robinson, Eldorado, Arkansas, Alfriza Moore of Eldorado, Arkansas and Evelyn Jean Christopher (Gregory). He is also survived by several grandchildren one brand new great granddaughter and many nephews, nieces and friends.
Jeff Matthews will always be in our heart.
Funeral Services for Jeff will be held 10:00 AM Friday, March 17, 2017 in the Garden Chapel at Mountain View Funeral Home & Memorial Park. Interment to follow at Tahoma National Cemetery, Kent, Washington.
